Biography
Soprano Megan Warburton is captivating audiences with her dazzling high notes and energetic storytelling. She recently sang with the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra in Wichita Falls, Texas as the Soprano Soloist in Carmina Burana and with First Coast Opera as Kay in the contemporary opera The Stranger’s Tale and Laurie in a concert edition of The Tender Land. In addition, she sang with Charleston Opera Theatre this season in recital at the historic Drayton Hall.
A native from the Rocky Mountains, she grew up hiking and exploring the national parks of Utah, cultivating a rich love of adventure. Between figure skating, ballet, and tap dancing, she found her love of opera as she participated in local singing competitions. Recent highlights include Sophie in Werther, La Feé in Cendrillon and Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte at the University of Michigan. Other roles include Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, Second Woman in Dido and Aeneas, and Emily in Help, Help, the Globolinks!
She made her debut as a festival artist with Opera Saratoga covering Johanna in Sweeney Todd, a soloist in opera and musical theatre recital performances, and ensemble in Sweeney Todd and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle in the summer of 2022. She also studied as an Opera Fellow with the CoOPERAtive Program in 2020 and Studio Artist with Utah Vocal Arts Academy in 2017.
Ms. Warburton enjoys communicating human journeys through concert and recital works, including Celebración de las Naciones in Guayaquil, Ecuador and the Year of the Woman Concert with the American Festival Chorus and Orchestra in Utah. Additionally she sang the dramatic narrative of the works of Henri Duparc in Sorrow & Ecstacy: Complete Songs of Duparc with Natalie Sherer. Ms. Warburton was a winner of the prestigious Friends of Opera: Anna Chapekis Graduate Encouragement Award in 2022. She is a two-time winner of the Concerto Competition and 1st place and audience choice winner of the Aria Competition at Utah State University, and the 1st place winner in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Competitions in classical and musical theatre divisions.
Ms. Warburton consistently strives to explore and experiment in regards to vocal repertoire. Under the guidance of Freda Herseth and Martin Katz she displays versatility in repertoire ranging from Baroque to 21st Century, while finding equal comfort in musical theatre works. Recently she collaborated with composer Evan Mack and pianist Sara Chiesa in “Zelda’s Mad Scene” from the opera The Ghosts of Gatsby. She holds a Master of Music degree from The University of Michigan and Bachelor of Music degree from Utah State University.
